Gilmore, Rees & Carlson, Professional Corporation was established by three former partners in the Trusts and Estates Department of the Boston law firm of Hale and Dorr. Daniel J. Gilmore and William J. Rees founded the firm (then known as Gilmore & Rees) in 1988 and in 1989 Christopher T. Carlson resigned his partnership at Hale and Dorr to join the firm.
In 1992, Bruce J. Bettigole, formerly chairman of the financial planning department of Adler Pollock & Sheehan, Incorporated. in Providence, Rhode Island, joined the firm as partner.
Michael P. Doherty and Craig A. Ciechanowski were named partners in 1996. The firm has grown quickly and dramatically, and has gained a reputation for expertise in complex and sophisticated trust, tax, estate, probate and civil litigation, real estate and family business matters. Although broadly based in New England, the firm"s ever growing client base now spans 37 states and includes clients in 9 foreign countries.
Most clients are referred to the firm by accountants, other attorneys, financial and investment consultants, insurance professionals and banks.
In fact, many of these professionals themselves rely on the firm for expert legal assistance in their own businesses. All three trusts and estates partners have been elected Fellows of the prestigious American College of Trusts and Estate Counsel.
