Privately. Assisted his father as a record searcher and translator till the latter’s appointment as Deputy-Keeper. Master of Arts.
Afterwards partner with Mr. W. Page, Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries. Council Society of Antiquaries, 1887-1889,1891-1893,1895-1897,1907.
Inspector under the Historical Manuscripts Commission. Editor of Calendar of State Papers, William and Mary (Master of the Rolls Series). Middlesex and Hertfordshire Notes and Queries, 1895-1898.
Home Counties Magazine, 1899-1904. Honourable Durham University (University College), 1909; legal and genealogical record searcher and translator.
