Career

Began teaching, 1854. Assistant, 1876-1877, principal 1857-1861, Mount Zion High School, Hancock County, Georgia. Private, 1861-1865, in company commanded by his father, in C.S.A.

Again principal Mount Zion High School, 1865-1874. Farmer near Sparta, Hancock County, 1874-1890. President Hancock Company Farmers’ Club from its origin.

President, 1886-1888, State Agricultural Society. Member Georgia House of Representatives, 1877-1878 and 1880-1881, Senate, 1884-1885. Governor of Georgia, 1890-1894.

Later manager Georgia Immigration and Investment Bureau.
