Studied at King Edward’s Grammar School, Coventry. Kingswood School, Bath. Handsworth College, Birmingham.
After leaving school was a schoolmaster. Entered Wesleyan ministry, 1890. Held pastorates in Wisbech, Bury Saint Edmunds, Westminster (London), and Shanklin, I. of West.
Was Honourable Chaplain at Dartmoor Prison, and has since lectured and written much on prison life and penal reform.
Lectured much on literary and social subjects—Gospel of Robert Louis Stevenson, et cetera (norm de plume, West. Scott King). Lecturer, and journalist.
