Bailie, William Lamdin was born on December 15, 1843 in Baltimore. Son of William and Mary B. Bailie.
Educated by private tutelage and special studies mechanic engineering.
Entered engineer corps United States Navy, January, 1863. Served through Civil War and was in active service until retired for injuries in line of duty, June, 1885. In scientific work, United States Fish Commission, 1882-1885.
Director departments Mechanic Arts, Science and Technology. Drexel Institute, Philadelphia, 1892-1904. Gold medal and diploma of honor for work in deep-sea research from International Fisheries Commission, London.
For service in United States Navy during Civil War, advanced to the grade of chief engineer retired, June 29, 1906, by act of Congress.
