With L.&N. R.R., St. Louis, 1896-1899. With Mississippi Valley Trust Company, 1900-1914, advancing to vice president. Chairman and federal reserve agent Federal Reserve Bank, St. Louis, 1914-1929, governor, 1929-1936, president.

1936-1941; now member law firm Martin, Peper & Martin. Chairman district commission on capital issues, Federal Reserve District Northern 8, World War I. Trustee Washington and Lee University.
