Came to Australia, 1884. Engaged in various occupations. Elected to State Parliament, of New South Wales for Language Division. of Sydney, 1894, re-elected three successive Paris., resigned upon election to 1st Federal Parliament, for West. Sydney, on Labour Party’s platform.
Admitted to New South Wales Bar.
Organised Maritime Unions. General Secretary of Wharf Labourers.
President Carters’ Union, New South Wales. President, Waterside Workers’ Federation.
Chairman Royal Commission on the Navigation Bill.
Delegate to Imperial Navigation Conference, 1907. Member of Parliament for West Sydney in Federal Parliament. Minister for External Affairs, 1904.
