Formerly a partner in the firm of Bannister & Schell, he afterwards maintained an independent practice for a number of years engaged in planning a number of Lutheran churches. Among these were St. Luke's at Woodlawn, Queens, and Church of the Incarnation at Brooklyn, also he was architect of several commercial buildings and residences. Mr. Bannister also served over a long period and was one-time Secretary of the New York State Board of Architectural Examiners.
In 1916 he was appointed by Mayor LaGuardia to membership on a Jury whose task was to select architects eligible for Municipal employ.
