Ellis, William Russell was born on April 23, 1850 in near Waveland, Indiana, United States. Son of James and Susan (Stone) Ellis.

Education

Removed to Guthrie Company, Iowa, 1855. Worked on farm and attended school. Later farmed, taught school and attended Iowa State Agricultural College.

Bachelor of Laws, State University of Iowa, 1874.

Career

2d, Mistress Ida J. Scott, June 16, 1885. Practiced law and did newspaper work at Hamburg, Iowa. 2 years city atty, and 1 term mayor there.

Removed to Oregon, 1883. Superintendent schools, Morrow Company, 1884-1885. District attorney 7th Judicial District, 3 terms, 1885-1890.

Member 53d to 55th Congresses (1893-1899). Judge 6th Judicial District, 1900-1906. Member 60th and 61st Congresses (1907-1911), 2d Oregon District.
