Mcnair, William Sharp was born on September 18, 1868 in Tecumseh, Michigan, United States. Son of David and Lucinda M. (Sharp) Mcnair.


Graduated from the United States Military Academy, 1890, Artillery School, 1896, Army War College, 1914.


December 26, 1894; children—Mary Louise (Mistress Edward Arthur Sterling, Junior), Dorothy. William Douglas, Norma Bestor. Commissioned add. Second lieutenant artillery, United States of America, June 12, 1890, and advanced through grades to colonel, July 1, 1916.

Brigadier general, December 14, 1930. Brig. general Ngakkan Nyaagu, 1916-1917. Commander Field Artillery of 1st Division, American Expeditionary Force, later 151st Artillery Brig.

Participated in Argonne Meuse offensive and advance to Sedan: chief of Artillery, 1st A.my, 1918-1919. Commanded 4th Coast Artillery District. Retired, September 30, 1932.
