Career

Began practice Valdosta, Georgia, 1883. Planter and mill man. President and general manager Valdosta St. Railway Company.

Member Georgia House of Representatives, 1892-1901, State Senate, 4 years (president 1905-1906). Delegate at large Democratic National Convention, Denver, 1908. Appointed, March 2, 1914, by Governor John M. Slaton, to fill vacancy in the United States Senate caused by death of Honorary Augustus O. Bacon.

Chairman board S. Georgia State Normal College. Trustee University of Georgia.
