Joined 19th Hussars, 1873. Commissioned, 1885; served Egyptian War, 1882-1884, present at battle of Tel-el-Kebir (medal with clasp and Khedive’s star). Soudan Expedition, 1884, present in engagements at El Teb and Tamai (despatches, Victoria Cross, two clasps).
