Bachelor of Arts, Alfred U., 1861. Doctor of Laws, 1886. Private 23d New York and 1st Pennsylvania Rifles in Civil War.

Career

Admitted to bar, 1867. Recorder of deeds, 1864-1866, superintendent schools, 1866-1867, district attorney, 1867-1869, McKean County, Pennsylvania. Aide-de-camp on staff Governor Hartranft with rank of colonel, 1875-1889.

Member Pennsylvania House of Representatives, 1872-1876. Member 48th and 49th Congresses (1883-1887). Auditor War Department, 1897-1899, Navy Department, 1899-1907.

Assistant attorney general of the United States, 1907-1910. Senior member of law firm of Brown, Schoonmaker & Nash.
