Wight, William Ward was born on January 14, 1849 in Troy, New York, United States. Son of William Ward and Lydia Ann Potwine (Van Akin) Wight.


Bachelor of Arts, Williams College (Phi Beta Kappa and honor man), 1869, A.M., 1887. Bachelor of Laws, Albany Law School (Union U.), 1873.

Engaged in practice at Milwaukee, since 1875. Member bar Court of Appeals, New York Secretary and librarian Milwaukee Law library association, June since 1875. Founder Milwaukee Civ.

Service Reform Association. Secretary Board Fire and Police Commissioners of Milwaukee, 1886-1889, member, 1888-1897, and chairman, 1889-1897. Secretary Milwaukee College (for education of women) and its successor, Milwaukee-Downer College, 1880-1907, president, 1907-1924.

A founder, 1890, and member Wisconsin Society S.A.R. (president 1906-1907). A founder, 1897, Wisconsin Society Colonial Wars.
