Wurster, William Wilson was born on October 20, 1895 in Stockton, California, United States. Son of Frederick William and Maude Evelyn (Wilson) Wurster.


Bachelor of Arts, University of California, 1919. Doctor of Laws, 1964.

Associate with Charles Dean on Sacramento filtration plant, 1921-1922. Traveled in Europe, 1922-1923. With Delano & Aldrich, architects, New York, 1923-1924, East Bay Water Company filtration plant, 1924-1925.

Practicing alone 1926-1943. Fellow in Grad School of Design, Harvard University, 1943. Dean of School of Architecture and Planning, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, 1944-1950.

Dean school, now college architecture University of California, Berkeley, 1950-1959, dean College of Environmental Design, 1959-1963, dean emeritus, 1963-1973, acting dean, 1965. Practicing architect as partner with Theodore C. Bernardi and Donn Emmons. Principal works include Golden Gateway Redevelopment Project, San Francisco, Center for Advanced study in Behavioral Sciences, Palo Alto, Ghirardelli Square, San Francisco, Cowell College, University of California, Santa Cruz, also office buildings.
