Ordained Reformed Church ministry, 1889. Pastor Hough Avenue Reformed Church, Cleveland, O., 1889-1899. Deacon and priest Protestant Episcopal Church, 1900.

Rector Emmanuel Church, Cleveland, 1900-1909, Church of Holy Apostles, Philadelphia, 1909-1912, St. Luke’s Church, Montclair, New Jersey, 1912-1915. Successively bishop suffragan of Newark, 1915-1917, bishop coadjutor, 1917-1927. Became bishop of Newark, October 25, 1927.
