Wim Adriaans was born on June 8, 1936 in Leiden, the Netherlands.
He completed his HBS-B diploma at Spinoza Lyceum in Amsterdam in 1955. He later studied at the Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam, completing his studies in 1960, and obtained AMBI certification from NGI in 1967. He earned a Master of Arts from Utrecht University in 1997.
Adriaans began his career as manager of the information department at the Free University Amsterdam, where he worked from 1968 to 1971, overseeing early institutional IT systems.
In 1971, he joined Ernst & Young Management Consultants in Utrecht as a manager, a position he held until 1980, working on information technology consulting projects. He was promoted to partner in 1980 and remained with the firm until 1994, playing a key role in the development of IT consulting services.
From 1994 to 2011, he served as chief executive officer of Art & Informatics, based in Culemborg and The Hague, where he focused on the intersection of art and information technology.
He married Irene Gielkens; they have one child, Wouter Adriaans.
