Admitted to bar and engaged in practice at Boston, 1861. Associate counsel the Boston & Providence R.R. Later chiefly engaged in trustee work, sitting as auditor or referee, and advisory corporation work.

Collector port of Boston, 1894-1898. United States commissioner, 1861-1869.
