He roured Slavonic territories, Greece, Italy for the scientific purposes. When he came back, he defended a thesis for a master's degree.
He was the author of "Unpublished poet A.M. Glegevitsch" from Dubrovno.(1882), showing the importance of Slavonic dramatic composition. While he was travelling round Bulgaria, he wrote a large collction of songs "Monuments of folk Bulgarian art" (1882). The collection consisted of short paragraphs, describing features of folk language, bulgarian language customs of the 17-18 centuries, proverbs and a brief dictionary. For some time he worked as a professor in Kazan. In 1888 he started to publish periodical collection "Slavonic bulletin".
