He won six medals at the International Coach Federation Canoe Slalom World Championships with three golds (C-1: 1967, 1969. C-1 team: 1969), a silver (C-1 team: 1971) and two bronzes (C-1 team: 1967, 1973). His daughter Violetta won a bronze medal in the women"s K-1 event at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing representing Austria.
