Ko holds a bachelor"s degree in electrical engineering from Seoul National University. Ko was employed as the president and Chief Executive Officer of Hanjin Information Systems. He also worked for a time as managing director of International Business Machines Corporation in of Korea.
Ko served as a counselor in the church"s Asia North Area presidency while he was an area seventy.
In April 2005, Ko became a member of the church"s Second Quorum of the Seventy.
