Career
He was the Commander of the Guangzhou Military Region between 2009 and 2016. Xu Fenlin was born in July 1953 in Jintan, Jiangsu Province. He has a bachelor"s degree in economics and management from the Central Party School.
Xu served as Chief-of-Staff of the Guangzhou Military Region from 2007 to 2009, and was promoted to Commander in 2009. He stayed in the role for some six years, before being transferred to the re-organized Joint Staff Department of the Central Military Commission to serve as deputy chief. He attained the rank of major general in July 2002, lieutenant general in July 2008, and full general in July 2013.
