She reached her highest WTA (Women's Tennis Association) Singles ranking of No.148 on 13 July. She also reached her current and highest WTA (Women's Tennis Association) Doubles ranking of No.27 in the world as of 01 February 2016. She was a finalist in Women's Doubles at the 2008 China Open in Beijing, and Quarterfinalist at the US Open in Women's Doubles.
And most recently she was a semi-finalist at the 2016 Australian Open in Women's Doubles with Zheng Saisai. They are currently the No. 3 WTA Women's Doubles Team as of 01 February 2016.
Xu posted good results at the Guangzhou International Women's Open where she fought her way from the qualifying draw unseeded, defeating 7th seed Wang Qiang and 10th seed Chan Chin-Wei to qualify. In the first round, she lost to Mandy Minella. Going in as unseeded, they lost in three sets in the first round to 15th seeds Kimiko Date-Krumm and Casey Dellacqua.
