Yabe Hisakatsu was born on December 3, 1878 in Tokyo, Japan.
Yabe Hisakatsu graduated from Science Department of Tokyo University (1901).
Yabe Hisakatsu proceeded to Europe and America for further studies (1908-1912). He was a professor at Tohoku University, where he built the Institute of Geology and Paleontology (1911-1939). He was a member of the Academy.
Yabe Hisakatsu has published over 500 publications covering a wide range of topics in geology, geophysics (earthquake, seismology), geomorphology and paleontology (also for paleobotany).
In 1920 Yabe Hisakatsu became a member of the National Research Council in Japan. In 1914 he became a corresponding member of the Geographical Society in Vienna and he was a foreign member of the Paleontological Society, the Chinese Geological Society and the Russian Paleontological Society, an honorary member of the California Academy of Sciences and the Paleontological Society of Japan.
