Yabu Meizan was born in 1853 in Japan.
During his mid-age proceeded to Tokyo to study painting on ceramics known as Satsuma-yaki. Later Yabu Meizan founded his own studio at Nakanoshima, Osaka, where he manufactured vases and crockery for export (1880).
Attended International Exhibition at Paris (1899), World Art Exhibition in U.S.A. (1904) and Anglo-Japanese Exhibition in London (1910), where he won several prizes, thus enhancing his reputation both at home and abroad. Excelled in painting of Nanso (Southern Sung School of China).
