Yachigusa Kaoru was born on January 6, 1931 in Osaka, Japan. Lost her father at the age of three and was brought up by her grandfather, a famous bamboo craftsman, and spent her childhood at Beppu.
When Yachigusa Kaoru was in the third year class of a girls' middle school, her house was air-raided. With this as a turning point gave up her ambition to become a painter and joined the Takarazuka Girls Opera Troupe.
From 1947 to 1957 Yachigusa Kaoru was a member of the Takarazuka Revue. Since leaving the Revue, she has been active in film, television, and narration. She famously quit part way through the filming of the television series Akai Giwaku outraged at being forced to work at times dictated by idol Momoe Yamaguchi's schedule.
