Yachiyo Inoue was born in Kyoto Prefecture, originally named Aiko Katayama.
At the death of her mother-in-law, Yachiyo Inoue succeeded to her name and became the fourth head of the Inoue school of Kyo-mai dancing (1947). In recognition of her efforts to preserve the traditional Japanese dance she has created an intangible cultural treasure. Has many pupils and is a great favorite. Yachiyo Inoue has also created her own music for the Miyako-odori dances held every spring in Kyoto.
