Career
When Jokan, a physician to the Okayama Clan, introduced a pill known as Hangonko, Seiho Maeda, the clan lord, ordered Yaezakiya Genroku to prepare pills and peddle them all over the country (about 1681). This was the beginning of drug peddling in Japan. Drug peddlers from Toyama Prefecture selling medicine from door to door is a familiar sight in Japan to this day.
