Yagi Yoshio was born in 1800 in Shizuoka, Japan.
Yagi Yoshio studied Chinese classics and Buddhism and then became a pupil of Mikamaro Natsume to study the Japanese classics (1819).
Yagi Yoshio entered the service of Oki-no-Kami, a direct retainer of the Shogunate, and was given the rank of samurai. Among his works are Shin-Kojikiden (New Commentary on Ancient History Book of Kojiki) and Shoku-Nihongi-ko (A Commentary on Shoku-Nihongi-a history book of the Heian Period).
