Yahya Abdul-Aziz Jemus Junkung Jammeh is the president of Gambia. As a young army officer, he took power in a July 1994 military coup and was elected as President in 1996; he was re-elected in 2001, 2006, and 2011.

Achievements

  • Gambia leader achieved a great success in the war against hunger and illiteracy in the country. Due to his efforts a number of programs of this kind are being carried out.

    He supported the creation of an integration grouping on the African continent – African Union. In his opinion the African Union – is an organization that is oriented on the implementation of active measures to improve the situation in Africa.

    The president of Gambia managed to impart in the region an absolutely novel for the Africans method of settlement of armed conflicts. This method is based on direct cooperation of conflicting parties.
