Career
Yakuin Zenso became a priest at Mount Hiei while young. Then returning to secular life studied medicine and became a noted physician, and was patronized by Hideyoshi Toyotomi, who conferred on him the title of Hoin. Later Yakuin Zenso founded a charity hospital. His family name was derived from the word Yakuin which means a "charity hospital."
