Yamada Eiichi was born in 1900 in Kyoto, Japan.
Yamada Eiichi served at Kyoto Dyeing Workshop of Mitsukoshi Company as apprentice in designing and coloring (from 1914). Later studied under Yosaburo Yoshikawa in oshi-yuzen (art of printing silk by impressing method), egaki-sarasa (hand-patterned cotton) and nori-oki (art of starch application.) and received secret formula in brush starching of yuzen (printed silk) from his master (from 1919).
While working at the store pursued further researches in brush starching (from 1943) until he set himself up as an independent artist and began devoting himself exclusively to study (1947).
