After finishing primary school he became a reporter and then beuan writing novels. Yamaji Kishi was elected a member of Proletarian Writers League’s Central Committee upon its formation (1930). When the league was dissolved he engaged in agricultural reclamation work and later returned to the writing field (1950). Among his works are "Go-Stop" "The Night Before the Meiji Restoration" and "Kaminari Shin- den."
