Yamanouchi Tamon was born in 1878 in Miyazaki Prefecture of Japan located on the island of Kyushu.

Yamanouchi Tamon was born in 1878 in Miyazaki Prefecture of Japan located on the island of Kyushu.
First Yamanouchi Tamon studied under Nankei Nakahara and then after moving to Tokyo in 1899 became a disciple of Gaho Hashimoto and Gyokudo Kawai.
Yamanouchi Tamon came into prominence when his paintings were awarded the third prize in the art exhibition of Nihon Bijutsuin. Later his painting titled "Tenryu Shiki" ("Four Seasons on River Tenryu") won the first prize at the 1-st Teiten (Imperial exhibition). He was also the member of judging committee for official art exhibitions.
