Yamanouchi Tokuryu was born in 1890 in Nara Prefecture in the Kansai region of Japan.
Yamanouchi Tokuryu graduated from Kyoto University with a degree in philosophy (1914).
After graduating from Kyoto University with a degree in philosophy he served for a while as professor at Kyoto Industrial School of Art and then proceeded to Europe for further studies (1920). Then he became the professor at Tokyo Commercial College (1923), and since 1931 he was the professor at his alma mater. He was the president of Kyoto Gakugei (Science & Art) College (1953). Among his works are "Introduction to Phenomenology" and "Phenomenal Form of Existence."
