Yasuji Honda was born in Fukushima Prefecture.
Graduated from the English Literature Section of Waseda University in 1929.
In 1929 became teacher of Ishinomaki Middle School in Miyagi Prefecture. In 1949 appointed to the present post. While in Ishinomaki began studying the Yamabushi Shinto music. First visited various places in the Tohoku District and then throughout the country to study Shinto arts and plays. Regarded as a leading scholar on this subject. Author of The Hoin Kagura (Shrine pantomimic dances) in '"Yarna- bushi Kagura and Bangaku" and "Noh and Kyogen" (play).
