Yasutane Yoshishige was born in Japan. He was the second son of Tadayuki Kamo, the noted mathematician.
Studied Confucianism and the classics under Fumitoki Sugawara, and later changed his surname to Yoshishige as he did not adopt his family trade.
Late in life he became a priest under the name of Jakushin and toured throughout the provinces. Was noted for his prose and poetry, besides being a skillful calligrapher.
