Yasuyori Tamba was born in 912 Tamba, Kyoto Prefecture, Japan, to a naturalized Chinese family during the Heian Period.
A physician of the Chinese school of medicine he, in recognition of his skill, was granted the title under which he is known and made a doctor of acupuncture. He was appointed Saemon-no-suke (second in command of the Imperial Palace) and vice-governor of Tamba concurrently.
In 984 he completed his famous work Ishinho in 30 volumes. The book was considered a vade mecum to physicians of those days and was written especially for Emperor Enyu.
