Yataro Mishima graduated from Komaba Agricultural School (now Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology). He entered Cornell University, where he studied from 1894 to 1900 and earned a Master of Arts degree in Science.
During 1911-1913, Yataro Mishima was head of the Yokohama Specie Bank. But he left it to become Governor of Bank of Japan from 1913 to 1919. As head of the bank, Mishima encouraged policies of monetary restraint.
Yataro Mishima was nominated to House of Peers in 1897 on a Kenkyukai Party ticket and was active in politics.
Mishima was a member of Japan's House of Peers.
