Yehoshua Arieli studied history, philosophy, and music at the Hebrew University from 1937-1940. From 1951 to 1953, studied at Harvard University. In 1955, got a Doctor of Philosophy degree at Hebrew University.
Yehoshua Arieli was a professor of Modern History at Hebrew University. From 1967 served as chairman of the department of American studies. He published six books and about sixty essays in Hebrew, German, and English.
Yehoshua Arieli held fellowships at the Center for the Study of Liberty, the Charles Warren Center at Harvard, Wolfson College, Oxford, the National Humanities Center, and the Max Planck Society, Goettingen.
Yehoshua Arieli was married to Yael Kornberg and had 3 children: 2 sons and 1 daughter.
