From 1920 correspondent, Ukraine News Agency. Then criminal investigations inspector, 1923 moved to Moscow and turned to journalism. Worked for satirical journal “Krasnyy perets”.
1924-1925, under pseudonym “Fyodorov the Foreigner”, wrote humorous stories and feuilietons on international topics. Printed satirical feuilietons in newspapers “Communist Youth League’skaya pravda” and “Gudok”. 1925-1926 in Red Army.
1926 began to write lit works in collaboration with I. Il’f. 1935 toured United States of America together with Il’f. At start of World War 2 military correspondent.
