Yorinari Toki

Background

Yorinari Toki was born in 1502 in Japan. He was the second son of Masafusa Toki, Military Commissioner of Mino (Gifu Prefecture).

Career

His elder brother, Masayori (Yorizumi), was driven out of his position by one of his retainers, Dosan Saito, who made Yorinari his lord. In his turn, Yorinari was ousted by Dosan and fled to Owari Province (Aichi Prefecture) and was protected there by Nobuhide Oda. Yorinari made peace with Dosan and returned to Mino. Driven out from Mino by Dosan again, Yorinari this time was protected by Shingen Takeda, the Lord of Kai Province (Yamanashi Prefecture), and then by Yoshikage Asakura, Lord of Echizen Province (Fukui Prefecture). Failing in his efforts to regain his lost territory he cook refuge in Kazusa (Chiba Prefecture) where Yorihisa Moriya protected him.

In his old age, he lost his eyesight and became a priest. Ittetsu Inaba, Lord of Kiyomizu Castle in Mino, took pity on him and permitted him to live in his native province.
