Yorinori Nishikinokoji worked assiduously for the cause of restoring the Imperial regime. He was among the persons who planned to move the Court to Yamato (Nara Prefecture) from Kyoto. The plan miscarried (1863) and he and six other Court nobles, including Sanetomi Sanjo, fled from the capital to Nagato (Choshu) Province (Yamaguchi Prefecture). The incident is called Shichikyo-ochi, or the Flight of the Seven Court Nobles.
Yorinori Nishikinokoji died of illness at Shimonoseki.
