Yoshiharu Ueda was born in 1755 in Higo, Kumamoto Prefecture, Japan.
Yoshiharu Ueda studied Japanese classics under Ohtra Moto-ori. He succeeded his father as maker of pottery known as Takahama-ware and also as village headman. In pursuance of his father's will made a study of local history of Amakusa County.
Yoshiharu Ueda served as assistant to Tadataka Ino when the latter came to Amakusa County as official surveyor of the Tokugawa Shogunate (1810). Later he concentrated on his ceramic business and sent for some of the best potters from Hizen (Saga Perfecture) and also visiting there himself. His ware bore the inscription Seigan which kept up the good quality of Takahama-ware of his father's time.
