Yoshikata Ono was one of the distinguished musicians of the Ono family of Court music fame.
Yoshikata Ono was born in Kyoto. He was tthe third son of Chikakata Ono.
When the warrior family of Taira was annihilated in the Dannoura Battle (1185), the Three Imperial Treasures which had been taken away by the Tairas were brought back to Kyoto. They were restored to the Palace sanctuary with a ceremony, with Yoshikata playing Miyabito-no-Kyoku (Courtier's Melody). Ex-Emperor Goshirakawa was so impressed by his music that he granted a high Court rank to Yoshikata's eldest son.
