Yoshimaro Tanaka

Background

Yoshimaro Tanaka was born in 1884 in Nagano Prefecture, Japan.

Education

Career

Appointed assistant professor of Agricultural Department of Hokkaido University (1911), assistant professor of Agricultural Department of Kyushu University (1921). He became professor at same department (1924), dean (1942-44) and resigned (1945), becoming emeritus professor.

Founded the Tanaka Sericultural Laboratory, of which he became director. He was appointed chief of Structural Genetics Faculty of National Institute of Genetics (1949). Was director of National Poultry Breeding and Heredity Research Group.

Yoshimaro Tanaka made public many theses such as a study in the heredity and breeding of the silk worm, a study in the breeding of fowl, and was conferred degrees of both Doctor of Science and Agriculture. Works: "Science of Animal Environment."
