Yoshinobu Ikeda was born in 1892.
He studied stage craft under Zanmu Koga and joined the Shochiku Motion Picture Co. as scenario writer (1921) and worked also as director. He became production chief of the Shochiku studios at Ofuna (1940) and acting chief of the Shochiku studios at Kyoto (1943). Since 1945 he has been active promoting Japanese movies abroad as director-general of the Federation of Japanese Motion Pictures.
