Background
Yoshio Aoyama is a figure of great significance in painting in the early twentieth century in France, little known in the historiography of art, his works were studied by the Spanish historian Luis Perez Nieto, given his friendship with the artist's widow, Marie Madeleine Lebanon.
Education
His first teacher, Oshito Tojiro, was a western-style artist specializing in watercolors (being the promoter of the art magazine Mizu-e). During this period the training of Aoyama was devoted to copies of classical models and study of nu and landscapes. He received a solid education in Western art.
Career
His painting technique, which refers to the traditional Japanese painting Ukiyo-e is literally floating painting, where the backgrounds are completely flat, and the figures seem to float on the painting.
Personality
Throughout his life he showed very irregularly, preferring the calmness of his workshop.
