He is a grandson of former military dictator and president General Ayub Khan. Yousuf Ayub was born in village Rehana in Haripur District of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan. His father was Mr Shaukat Ayub, son of late Ayub Khan and brother of politician Gohar Ayub Khan.
He is a Hindkowan of the Tarin tribe. He was educated at the Army Burn Hall College, Abbottabad, Pakistan, passing high school. Allegations of corruption in awarding government tenders have also been leveled against him in the press
He has been recently viewed as either "mentally deranged" or a conniver of the highest order.
Khan has changed parties several times and is at this moment a member of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, although his status within this party also seems rather dubious following his 2015 volte face.
