When the Hojo forces captured the temporary seat of government of the South Dynasty and exiled Emperor Godaigo to Oki Island, Yukifusa accompanied the emperor to the island. Although the North Dynasty wanted to call back Yukifusa to Kyoto in order to make him do calligraphical work for Emperor Kogon, he refused the offer. When Emperor Godaigo went back to Kyoto, he followed the emperor. He was killed in action at Kanagasaki Fort.
